Nostalgia means a longing for home or a bittersweet longing for the past. Home involves a place of belonging or security and we often long for the past, often childhood, in this sense. Therefore looking forward to events that provide this sense of home such as future christmases or future long drawn out summer evenings playing in the park invoke a sense of nostalgia for the future.
