Not all scientific thought is fact. Every scientific fact began as a belief. When the the first testable hypothesis was formed, it began its journey from belief toward fact.

It is arguable that it's not a scientific belief until a hypothesis is tested and accepted, but that seems to me too rigorous a test.

Today we have string theory, dark energy, multiple universes, origin-of-life experiments, so many scientific explorations that began as scientific belief. And some; e.g., alchemy, astrology, ESP, phrenology, creation science and others that did not.

At least that's my view, open for discussion, of course.
